Winners of WIPO Schoolchildren’s Trophy honored by President Grybauskaitė

Gabija Imbrasaitė and Aleksandra Kriukelytė, Lithuania’s Health Science university gymnasium students were awarded with WIPO Schoolchildren’s Trophy, on World Science Day, 10 th of November 2017.

 

The Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė has awarded these students  at  the solemn ceremony which took place at the Presidential Palace. The award was given for scientific work “Bioplastic with blue mold (lot. Penicillium roqueforti) impact on pears ripening and preservation“. Bioplastic usage keeps pears fresh for a longer time, protects fruits from bacteria and has no negative impact for humans.


The research work of young researchers (scientists, students) was acknowledged as the best among more than 40 works by the Jury formed of the State Patent Bureau of the Republic of Lithuania, Agency for Science, Innovation and Technology and Association of Patent Attorneys members. Žilvinas Danys, chairman of the Commission, evaluating the research work of the masters, said: “Young researchers will definitely contribute to the development of innovation in our country and aspire to become participants of the patent system in the future.”

 

The WIPO Schoolchildren’s Trophy is awarded to children in primary or secondary education who have achieved distinction in a field of school activity related to the IP system. It gives recognition to outstanding efforts in the field of innovation and creativity.
