Lithuania takes over regional group coordination at WIPO

On 15 December 2017, the hand-over of the coordination function of the Central European and Baltic States (CEBS) regional group took place at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Georgia that served as CEBS coordinator in 2017 has passed these duties over to Lithuania that will provide coordinatorship throughout 2018. After assuming duties of CEBS coordinator as of 1 January 2018, Lithuania will be in charge of coordinating the group’s positions and presenting them at WIPO plenary meetings, as well as participating in the negotiations on new WIPO agreements and other important issues of WIPO agenda on behalf of the group.


Lithuania was represented by Deputy Director of the Lithuanian State Patent Bureau Mr. Žilvinas Danys, Permanent Representative of Lithuania Ambassador Andrius Krivas and Counsellor of the Permanent Mission Mrs. Renata Rinkauskienė at the meeting.


 The CEBS group comprises 18 members: Albania, Bosnia and Hercegovina, Bulgaria, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Croatia, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Georgia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia. CEBS coordinatorship rotates among members on the annual basis. Previously, Lithuania served as CEBS coordinator in 1999.
