The State Patent Bureau of the Republic of Lithuania (SPB) organizes conference “Unitary patent protection: what’s next?” which will take place on 19 November, 2015 in Vilnius, Lithuania.
An EPN workshop “Espacenet New” took place in Vilnius (Lithuania) on July 7-8. The seminar was mainly dedicated to the identification of the ways how to improve the quality of database Espacenet.
A meeting of Heads of Nordic-Baltic Patent Offices took place in Stockholm (Sweden) on May 21st 2015.
A lesson on patenting and inventions was held in Vilnius „Žirmūnai gymnasium“ on May 7th. Around 80 puppils, grades 8 through 10 were tought about industrial and intelectual property as well as informed about activities of a few famous inventors and patenting of their innovations.
State Patent Bureau (SPB) has published an annual review of 2014. The present Review contains detailed information on patenting, design and trademark protection policy as well as administration peculiarities in Lithuania.
Dr. Arūnas Želvys was nominated as a new Director of the State Patent Bureau (SPB) on 20th March 2015.
Mr Arūnas Želvys has been working as the Head of Law and International Affairs Division of the SPB for five years. He was also a Justice Attaché for IP and civil law matters in Brussels during the Lithuanian Presidency of the EU Council. The new Director has graduated from the University of Vilnius, Law Faculty and also holds a PhD in the industrial property field.
In 2014 State Patent Bureau of Lithuania received 5892 applications for registration of industrial property objects, increased 1,5 percent over 2013, and 27 percent increased over 2012.
In preparation for the introduction of the euro in Lithuania we expect that the State patent Bureau eServices will be down beginning at 4 p.m., Wednesday, December 31st 2014 through 11 a.m., Friday, January 2nd 2015.
From the 30th of September 2014, the submission of the trademarks and designs applications and other related documents can be filled through the newly amendment electronic system of the State Patent Bureau of the Republic of Lithuania (SPB). A new system allows to fill the applications and send other documents and communications more easily and faster.
From 4 September 2014, the provisions of Article 66 of the Patent Law of the Republic of Lithuania, “International patent applications when the National Patent Office is the designated or elected patent office”, will cease to be valid. According to part 1 of Article 45 of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), termination of the national route for international applications will enable entities to acquire patent protection in Lithuania according to the European Patent Convention (with the Euro-PCT application).
